Two children standing shoulder to shoulder on a little grassy base — a girl in a pink dress sprigged with green, a bow in her hair, a bunch of yellow flowers gathered in one hand; a boy beside her in a pale green jacket and blue trousers, hands at his sides. Neither looks at the other. They just stand together, which is the whole of it.

The bisque is left unglazed, soft to the touch and matte as chalk, and the colour has been sprayed on so lightly that the pink of her dress fades away at the hem. Her hair is modelled in loose combed waves and his in a smooth cap — a small thing, but it's how these figures get their tenderness, since the faces are nearly identical from piece to piece: the same wide teardrop eyes with a single dot of light, the same shy line of a mouth. The flowers in her hand are built up as tiny separate beads of clay, the most delicate work on the piece.

The base carries the title — You're Forever In My Heart — with ©1996 Precious Moments, Inc. · Licensee Enesco Corporation · 139548, and a small gold Indonesia sticker still in place from the shop it came from.
