Vintage Fitz and Floyd "Luck O' The Irish" Leprechaun with Pot of Gold Figurine – Hand-Painted St Patricks Day Decor, Ceramic, 2000s
A Fitz and Floyd Essentials ceramic from the Luck O' The Irish line — a hand-painted leprechaun caught mid-dance, one arm thrown overhead, one buckled black shoe kicked up behind, his small black pot of gold heaped right beside him. The leprechaun wears a glossy emerald-and-pine-green striped suit with a green bowtie, a wild orange beard around blue eyes and a tipsy red nose, and a black top hat banded in green with a gold buckle. The pot is finished in deep black ceramic, painted with bright green shamrocks around the belly and tied with a gold cord at the rim; the heaped gold coins forming the top are part of the cast, finished in bright gold high-glaze. The piece is a single integrated sculpture — figurine and pot are one ceramic body, not a separable trinket box.
Fitz and Floyd opened in Dallas in 1960 and built its reputation on figural ceramics that were as much sculpture as serveware. Fitz and Floyd Essentials — launched in 1995 — was the firm's seasonal-and-novelty line: hand-painted but more accessibly priced than the mainline F&F, focused on holiday tableaux for mantels, dining tables, and bar carts. Luck O' The Irish was the St. Patrick's Day collection, and the leprechaun-with-pot-of-gold motif was its signature. The base carries the round black FITZ AND FLOYD ESSENTIALS® stamp with "Luck O' The Irish — HANDCRAFTED — CHINA".
A piece for the Fitz and Floyd seasonal collector, for the St. Patrick's Day decorator who keeps a few good ceramic pieces year over year, for the Irish-heritage household, or as a 17 March birthday / lucky-charm gift.
