Vintage Wedgwood Blue Jasperware Trinket Box – Neoclassical Figures, White Sprig Relief, Floral Border, Bone China, England 1970s
A small rectangular trinket box in Wedgwood Blue Jasperware — the cobalt-blue stoneware Wedgwood has been making since the 1770s, with white sprig relief applied to the cobalt body. The lid carries a neoclassical tableau: a seated goddess on the left, a winged Cupid mid-step, and a standing male figure with raised arm — the kind of Sèvres-via-Greek-Roman scene Wedgwood reproduced for two and a half centuries on its decorative pieces. Around the lid edge: a band of small white roses and leaves in relief. The body of the box continues the white-on-blue treatment with floral garland bands above and below, and small star-flower motifs at each corner.
The mark on the back is the impressed Wedgwood circular stamp with Made in England — the standard modern Wedgwood Jasperware mark used from the 1960s onward. The box belongs to the line of decorative Jasperware Wedgwood has produced steadily through the late twentieth century, sold as small bedroom-table, dressing-room, or library-shelf pieces — for storing rings, earrings, cufflinks, small medals.
A piece for the Wedgwood Jasperware collector building a boxes shelf, for the grandmillennial dressing table, or as a quiet old-money gift — Wedgwood has made these boxes since the Georgian era, and the visual code is unchanged.
