Vintage Wedgwood Pale Blue Jasperware Oval Pin Tray – Two Putti Sprigged Center, Scalloped Edge, Anthemion Border, Ring Dish, England 1980s
A small oval scallop-edged pin tray from Wedgwood — pale blue jasper stoneware with white sprigged-on relief in the firm's classical Dancing Hours / Cupid Offering register. The centre carries a sprigged scene of two putti facing each other, one offering a small object to the other — a small Wedgwood vignette descended from the 1780s Templetown / Flaxman drawings the firm has reproduced for two centuries. Above the medallion sits a white anthemion floral spray (a central rosette flanked by leaves), and the two side corners are finished with acanthus accents in matching white jasper. The scalloped oval edge follows the form continuously around.
Wedgwood invented jasperware in 1774, and solid jasper — where the colour runs all the way through the clay rather than dipped over a base — is the firm's signature spec. The pale blue / white-sprig combination is the wedding-blue look Wedgwood is best known for to the wider market, and the format collectors enter the line on.
This is the third small pale-blue jasperware piece in this shop, alongside the boxed Royal Portrait Plate and the Miniature Round Fluted Tray already listed — three formats in the same Wedgwood family for a small vignette or a coordinated collector group.
A piece for the Wedgwood Jasperware collector, for a vanity or bedside ring tray, for the small-decoration vignette, or as a Mother's Day / bridal-shower / housewarming gift.
