Vintage Wedgwood Blue Jasperware Silver Jubilee Plate – Queen Elizabeth II Ottawa Visit Limited Edition, White Cameo, England 1977
Wedgwood blue, the colour the family has been mixing since the 1770s — and against it, a single white cameo of the Queen, ringed in laurel, ringed again by a wreath that runs the entire rim. Around the upper arc of the field, the words H.M. 1952 · SILVER JUBILEE · 1977, raised in white relief like a coin. Around the lower arc, QUEEN ELIZABETH II. This is the design half of every Silver Jubilee Wedgwood plate. The other half lives on the back — and that is where this one parts company from the others.
Turn it over. In gold script: To commemorate the visit of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II to Ottawa during her Silver Jubilee Year 1977 — Limited Edition, with a hand-stamped edition number. This is the Canadian special edition — a small run produced for the Queen's 1977 visit to Ottawa during her Silver Jubilee tour, the moment she signed the Constitution Act process into motion. The general Wedgwood Silver Jubilee plate is a familiar collector's piece. This one — the Ottawa visit, the gold inscription, the limited number — is the rarer cousin, and the Canadian one.
The plate itself is classic Wedgwood Jasperware: matte cobalt body, white sprig relief, fired together so the white sits a fraction proud of the blue surface. Eight inches in diameter, hung by the original plate-stand fittings, designed to live on a wall rather than under a teacup. The white cameo is sharp and complete; every laurel leaf in the rim wreath is intact.
A piece for someone building a Royal commemorative wall, an Ottawa or Canadiana keepsake collector, a Wedgwood Jasperware enthusiast, or anyone who wants a quiet but specific piece of 1977 — the Silver Jubilee summer the Queen came to Canada.
