A small footed dessert compote from Aynsley — fine bone china finished in rose pink with elaborate gilt scrollwork around the rim and pedestal, and a central white well holding a hand-tinted cabbage rose bouquet (pink blooms, yellow buds, periwinkle forget-me-nots, soft green leaves). The shape is the Sèvres-revival bonbon or sweetmeat compote — a shallow bowl raised on a low pedestal foot — meant for chocolates, petit fours, mints, or small confections at the close of a meal, or set up empty as cabinet display.

Aynsley, founded 1775 in Longton, sits with Wedgwood, Royal Worcester, and Royal Doulton as the four pinnacle English bone-china houses.
