Royal Commemoratives

Vintage Crown Staffordshire Queen Mother Bone China Bell – Royal Portrait, Gilt Trim, Commemorative Hand Bell, England 1980s

A small porcelain hand bell, fine bone china, glazed in cream and bound at top and bottom with a thin gilt line. On the bell itself: a half-length portrait of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother in coronet, pearls, and the blue Order of the Garter sash, set against a draped court curtain in deep red. The portrait is framed in a sweep of gilt scrollwork and English roses. The handle finial is finished in gold. A piece of Crown Staffordshire from the maker's late twentieth-century commemorative line — most likely produced for the Queen Mother's 80th or 90th birthday celebrations of 1980 and 1990, when the firm released a number of royal bells, mugs, and small commemoratives.

Crown Staffordshire is one of the older Staffordshire bone china houses — established in 1801 in Longton, absorbed into the Wedgwood Group in 1973, and known through the 1980s for finely-finished royal commemoratives and dinner ware. The bell carries the standard Crown Staffordshire / Fine Bone China / Estd 1801 / Made in England mark inside the rim, with the original ceramic-ball clapper still attached and ringing clearly.

A piece for the Queen Mother collector, for the Anglophile dinner table, or as a small, specific royal gift — the kind of bell that gets placed on a hall console or rung once a year at a formal dinner. Photographs well in royal-themed shelves, against linen, or alongside other small bone china commemoratives.
