AS IS Antique W.H. Goss Edward VII Memorial Sack Bottle – "The Peacemaker," Crested China, Dartmouth Model, England Circa 1910

Two collecting worlds in one small bottle — the beloved tradition of Goss crested china meets Edwardian royal commemoration. This piece carries both the history of a king and the archaeology of a river.

The form is Goss's famous Dartmouth Sack Bottle — a miniature replica of an ancient wine bottle dredged from the River Dart and preserved in Exeter Museum, its squat body and narrow neck faithfully reproducing the original's silhouette. A raised clay seal on the side reads "H.Z. Holdsworth / Dartmouth / 1735," identifying the bottle's historical provenance. But this particular example was produced as a memorial to Edward VII, adding a second layer of significance to an already storied shape.

On the front, a finely engraved profile portrait of the King — bearded, dignified — is framed by a laurel wreath and topped with the Imperial Crown. On the reverse, in Gothic blackletter: "Edward the Peacemaker" — the title given to the king whose diplomacy helped forge the Entente Cordiale — followed by his birth, accession, and death dates. Produced shortly after Edward VII's passing in May 1910, this bottle belongs to the brief window when the nation mourned a monarch who had been genuinely popular.

Made in Goss's signature luminous white porcelain with a gold-rimmed neck, bearing the goshawk backstamp that collectors look for. A previous repair is visible at the neck where it joins the body — the break has been glued and the join line is evident. Noted for full transparency and reflected in pricing.
