Vintage Grafton China Pastel Fluted Teacup and Saucer – Yellow, Mint Green, or Baby Blue, Rose Bouquet Interior, Gold Trim, England 1940s
Sold · archived in our galleryThree colours, one design — choose Yellow, Mint Green, or Baby Blue. Each is sold individually as a teacup and saucer set.
The fluted body fans out from base to rim in soft vertical ribs, catching the pastel glaze at different angles so the colour shifts from pale to saturated as the light moves. Each scalloped rim is traced in gold, and the handle carries a fine gold line down its spine. The ribbing gives the cup a petal-like silhouette — almost like holding a tulip. Grafton China, produced by A.B. Jones & Sons in Longton, was known for exactly this kind of understated elegance — strong colour, clean shape, restrained gilding.
Turn the cup and look inside: a spray of pink roses, blue cornflowers, and yellow buds circles just below the rim — a hidden garden visible only when you lift the cup to drink. The same bouquet appears at the centre of each saucer, surrounded by the pastel ground. The saucer carries the same fluted moulding as the cup, so the two sit together as a single coordinated piece. Three colours, three moods — collect one or mix all three for a pastel tea table.
