Teacup & Saucer

Vintage Paragon "Sarabande" Teacup & Saucer – Deep Red Rose, Bold Floral, Gold Trim, Fine Bone China, England 1960s

There are teacups with flowers, and then there are teacups where the flowers take over. Paragon's "Sarabande" belongs firmly in the second category — crimson roses so bold they seem to bloom right off the porcelain.

Named after the stately Baroque dance, this pattern moves with a slow, deliberate elegance. A single large crimson rose dominates the cup face, its petals layered in shades from deep burgundy to blushing pink, flanked by tight buds and lush green foliage. The colour saturation is remarkable — Paragon was known for pushing their transfers closer to the vibrancy of hand-painting, and "Sarabande" is a prime example. Against the pure white bone china ground, the effect is dramatic without being busy: one statement flower, perfectly placed.

The cup shape is classic Paragon — a footed form with a gently flared rim and an elegant looped handle, both edged in gold. Produced during the 1960s at Paragon's Longton factory, this cup carries the brand's hallmark combination of bold artistry and royal pedigree — Paragon held warrants from both Queen Elizabeth and the Queen Mother. "Sarabande" is one of those patterns that collectors seek out specifically: the deep red roses are rarer than the pastel florals that dominate the vintage teacup market, giving this cup standout appeal on a shelf or a tea table.
