Vintage Royal Albert Country Fayre Kent Teacup & Saucer – Fruit Pattern, Apples Grapes Plums, Black Ribbed Foot, Bone China, England 1970s
A Royal Albert teacup and saucer from the firm's Country Fayre Series, sub-pattern KENT — a wraparound fruit composition representing England's "Garden County" of Kent, famous for its orchards and vineyards. Red-and-yellow apples, peaches, deep-purple grape clusters, yellow plums, blue wildflowers, and green foliage circle the cup and ring the saucer on a pale-blue sky background. The cup pedestal is finished in the line's distinctive black ribbed band — a vertically-ridged glossy black band trimmed in gilt that sits between the white cup and the foot ring, the visual marker for the KENT sub-pattern and the way this piece reads across a cabinet shelf.
Royal Albert, founded 1896 in Longton and holding the Royal Warrant since 1904, ran the Country Fayre Series through the 1970s and 80s — a county-named series where each sub-pattern represented a different English county and its agricultural specialty. KENT is the orchard sub-pattern (Kent is the "Garden of England" for its fruit production), Devon the floral, Surrey another regional design. The series is one of Royal Albert's named / patterned lines that collectors specifically chase as a county set.
The base reads in full: Royal Albert / Bone China / England / Country Fayre Series / Kent.
A cup-and-saucer for the Royal Albert Country Fayre collector building the county set, for the Royal Albert named-pattern specialist, for the fruit-motif fine-china collector, for the English-country / cottagecore interior, or as a Mother's Day / housewarming / English-heritage gift.
