Vintage Royal Albert Dog Rose Teacup and Saucer – Mint Green Ombré Border, Pink Wild Rose, Crown China, Scalloped Rim, Gold Trim, England 1930s

A wash of mint green fades inward from the rim, and against it two open-faced wild roses — pink petals deepening to mauve at the edges, pale at the centre, each flower anchored by a cluster of golden-orange stamens. The green is airbrushed, not painted — a gradient that dissolves into the white bone china ground like a watercolour that hasn't quite dried.

This is Royal Albert's Dog Rose — the wild rose of English hedgerows, the flower that scrambles through every country lane in June. The blooms are loose-petalled and painted with a naturalist's eye: serrated leaves, thorny stems, tight pink buds not yet unfurled. The colour runs from deep rose-pink at the petal tips through blush to white, with red-orange stamens clustered at the heart of each flower.

The cup is a straight-sided shape — taller and more upright than Royal Albert's later Montrose form, with a scrolled S-curve handle traced in gold. The scalloped saucer mirrors the same green-to-white gradient with its own spray of dog roses. Inside, the cup is white, so the green rim reads as a soft halo when you look down into it.

The backstamp reads "Crown China" — a marking Royal Albert used between approximately 1917 and 1935, placing this cup in the pre-war era. Royal Albert was founded in 1896 by Thomas Clark Wild at the Albert Works in Longton, Staffordshire. Crown China pieces predate the mass-export period and Old Country Roses, representing a smaller, earlier output that collectors increasingly seek out.
