Vintage Royal Albert Nosegay Teacup and Saucer – Multicolour Floral Bouquet, Gold Stipple Border, Avon Shape, Bone China, England 1950s

Clusters of pink roses, blue cornflowers, yellow daisies, and tiny lilac blossoms — gathered into tight posies — circle the cup and scatter across the saucer. Between each bouquet, a band of gold stipple dusts the rim like fine filigree, the gilt dots fading inward until they dissolve into white bone china.

This is Royal Albert's Nosegay — a pattern registered around 1935, named for the old English word for a small handful of flowers held to the nose for pleasure. Each spray is a miniature garden with roses at the centre and smaller blooms crowding in around them. A single posy sits at the bottom of the cup interior — a quiet surprise that rewards the person who finishes their drink.

The Avon shape is one of Royal Albert's most recognised silhouettes — low, wide, and gently flared at the scalloped rim, reading more like a shallow bowl than a cylinder. The scrolled handle curves in a clean S with a gilt spine. The saucer matches: scalloped edge, gold stipple border, and its own ring of nosegays around the well.

Royal Albert was founded in 1896 by Thomas Clark Wild at Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, receiving the "Royal" prefix in 1904. Nosegay belongs to the brand's pre-war golden era — when Royal Albert's multicolour floral transfers and lavish gilt work set the standard for English bone china. The brand joined Allied English Potteries in 1964 and Royal Doulton in 1972. All pieces marked "Bone China England" are discontinued collectibles.
