Teacup & Saucer

Vintage Royal Chelsea Chintz Teacup and Saucer – Pink Roses, Black Handle, Black Rim and Foot, Floral Bone China, England 1950s

Pink roses and purple blooms scattered across white bone china — and then, where you expect gold, black. A black handle, a black rim line, a black foot ring. Royal Chelsea's floral chintz paired with an all-black trim that turns a garden-party teacup into something sharper, something with an edge. The contrast is immediate: soft petals in deep pink and magenta, clusters of violet-blue flowers and tiny white buds winding through green foliage — all framed by the kind of deliberate darkness that most English bone china never attempts.

The chintz covers the cup's exterior in loose, open clusters rather than the wall-to-wall density of a full all-over print — each group of flowers separated by enough white ground to let the pattern breathe. The saucer carries the same floral arrangement across its face, trimmed with a fine black line at the edge. Inside, the cup is plain white, clean and undecorated. The black handle is a simple loop, and the black foot ring grounds the cup with the same quiet authority.

Made by Royal Chelsea — the trade name of the New Chelsea Porcelain Co. Ltd, a Longton, Staffordshire firm that produced bone china from the 1910s until the early 1960s. The "Royal Chelsea" mark was introduced around 1943, primarily for teaware exported to North America, and every piece bearing this name is English-made and long discontinued.
