Vintage Royal Chelsea Gold and Turquoise Petal Teacup and Saucer – Lotus Design, Heavy Gilt, Enamel Dots, Bone China, England 1950s
Sold · archived in our galleryGold petals radiating from the centre of the saucer, white petals opening around the cup — this is not a flower pattern so much as a flower structure, reduced to geometry and rebuilt in heavy gilt and turquoise enamel. Each white petal carries a gold midrib line that ends in a tiny arrowhead finial; between each petal, the gold ground holds a trio of hand-applied turquoise blue dots — raised enamel points you can feel with a fingertip, placed one by one after the gilding was fired. The effect is architectural: a lotus or daisy form rendered with the precision of a compass rose and the richness of an illuminated manuscript.
The gold is not decorative trim — it is the ground itself, covering close to half the surface of both cup and saucer in a thick, lustrous layer. The handle is fully gilt, solid gold from top to bottom. The cup sits low and wide, weighted and deliberate, with a heavy gold rim and a gold foot ring anchoring the composition. Inside, plain white. This is a teacup that belongs on a lacquered tray in a room with brass fixtures and velvet — Art Deco geometry dressed in Mid-Century confidence.
Made by Royal Chelsea — the trade name of the New Chelsea Porcelain Co. Ltd, Longton, Staffordshire, producing bone china from the 1910s until the early 1960s. Every piece is English-made and long discontinued.

Royal Chelsea's little anchor is an homage, not a link to 18th-century Chelsea; it was made in Longton, c. 1943–early 1960s, the heaviest gilt belonging to the export era.
