Teacup & Saucer

Vintage Royal Grafton Pink Rose Teacup and Saucer – Cottage Rose, Brown Leaves, Scalloped Rim, Gold Trim, Bone China, England 1960s

A spray of pink roses — deep magenta at the centre, softening to blush at the open petals — wraps around the cup and scatters across the saucer. What sets this pattern apart is the foliage: the leaves are rendered in warm brown and russet tones rather than the usual green, giving the whole arrangement an autumnal warmth that reads less "garden party" and more "afternoon light through a cottage window." The white bone china ground stays clean and uncluttered, letting the roses carry the design.

The cup sits on a footed base with a gently waisted profile — narrower at the middle, flaring out to a scalloped gold rim. The handle is a neat loop, gilt-traced along the spine, and the saucer echoes the same scalloped edge with its own gold border. Inside, the cup is plain white, so the colour hits when you lift the cup from the saucer and again when you set it down.

Made by Royal Grafton — the trade name of A.B. Jones & Sons Ltd, Longton, Staffordshire. The company was founded in 1900, received a Royal Warrant from Queen Mary, and produced fine bone china until 1972. Everything marked "Royal Grafton Fine Bone China Made in England" is now discontinued and collectible. Their rose patterns, with that distinctive brown-leaf palette, remain among the most recognisable designs in mid-century English bone china.
