Vintage Royal Tuscan Yellow Magnolia Teacup and Saucer – Gold Palmette Band, Fine Bone China, Botanical Pine, Pattern D2962, England 1950s
Yellow magnolias and wild pine on white bone china, framed by a neoclassical gold band — a teacup that feels like a page from a Victorian botanical album.
Large yellow magnolia blooms dominate both cup and saucer — their petals shading from lemon to cream, dark green leaves glossy beneath them, the occasional hint of purple-red at the centre where the bud opens. Weaving between the flowers, pine branches with fine grey-green needles add an unexpected wild note, as though the magnolias were growing at the edge of a forest rather than a formal garden. The botanical detail is precise and naturalistic — each petal veined, each needle distinct — printed with the clarity that Royal Tuscan was known for.
Above the floral scene, a wide gold palmette band runs around the rim — an ornamental border drawn from neoclassical architecture, its repeating fan-shaped motifs enclosed in golden cartouches. Below it, a fine row of tiny gold arrowheads adds a second decorative register, bridging the formal geometry of the band and the organic freedom of the flowers below. The handle is gold-tipped with a sweeping scroll, and the foot ring is fully gilded, grounding the cup with a base of warm gold.
Made by Royal Tuscan of Longton, Staffordshire — a fine bone china house later absorbed into the Wedgwood group and now discontinued, making their best patterns increasingly collectible. Pattern D2962 in pristine condition.
