Vintage Royal Worcester Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Dish – Imari Style Border, Doves & Coat of Arms, Fine Bone China, England 2002

Available

A Royal Worcester bone-china dish for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II — fifty years on the throne, 1952 to 2002, an anniversary only five monarchs before her had ever reached. The design wraps that milestone in an Imari-style border: rust-red panels strewn with gold leaves, cobalt scrolls, rose-pink flower medallions, and — look closely — two white doves in flight through the red, a quiet emblem of a half-century of peace-keeping duty.

At the centre, the full royal coat of arms in colour — lion, unicorn, crowned shield and garter motto — ringed by Queen Elizabeth II · Golden Jubilee · 1952 · 2002 in burnished gold lettering. The rim is edged in gold. The Imari palette is no accident: Worcester has been making "Japan pattern" wares in these same reds and blues since the 1770s, so the border quotes the firm's own eighteenth-century tradition.

The backstamp is its own certificate: Royal Worcester's C51 roundel (the C stands for circa, the 51 for 1751 — the year a Worcester physician, Dr John Wall, founded what became England's first "Royal" porcelain house) with the full jubilee dedication — In celebration of the Fiftieth Anniversary of Her Majesty's Accession to the throne. Royal Worcester's English production ended in 2009, which places every marked piece like this in a closed chapter.

Sized for a jewellery tray, ring dish, or teabag rest at about 4.5 inches, it slips into a royalcore shelf, a Worcester collection, or a jubilee-themed gift without asking for much room.
