Vintage Chinese Cloisonné Vase – Cobalt Blue Enamel, Floral Motif, Brass Body, Baluster Shape, Chinoiserie Decor, China Mid-Century
A jewel-toned column of blue that anchors a room the way a single statement piece should. This Chinese cloisonné vase glows with the deep, saturated cobalt that has made the craft a centrepiece of Eastern decorative art for over six centuries.
The body is wrapped in a tapestry of hand-applied enamel: chrysanthemums, peonies, and plum blossoms in vivid green, pink, white, and gold unfold against a cobalt ground laid over an intricate wan-character diaper pattern — a hallmark of quality cloisonné that adds shimmer and depth beneath the floral motifs. Each colour field is separated by fine brass cloisons (wire outlines), soldered to the copper body and filled through multiple kiln firings. Decorative bands ring the neck, shoulder, and foot — cloud-head ruyi motifs at the top, golden scrollwork at the shoulder, and upright plantain leaves at the base — a complete vocabulary of classical Chinese ornament on a single vessel.
Standing approximately 29 cm (11.5 inches) tall in a graceful baluster form with a flared lip and splayed foot, this vase has the presence to stand alone on a console or bookshelf. The warm brass edges at rim and base glow against the cool enamel, a contrast that makes cloisonné so appealing in both traditional and contemporary interiors — from a chinoiserie mantel arrangement to a maximalist modern shelf.
